Linda Stoeckel gets Dudley United netball life membership | PHOTOS

Linda Stoeckel's Life Membership presentation dinner was held at Dudley United Football Clubrooms on June 22 after a Wisanger home game.

Linda chose this date due to starting her junior playing career at Wisanger.

Her Nanna, Clorice Bates and her mum and Aunties were an inspiration to her as they were involved heavily behind the scenes with coaching, committee, umpiring and playing. So, I guess you could say being a fantastic volunteer is in her blood.

The clubrooms were decorated with white table cloths with beautiful native flower vases arranged by Jan Ordway and Kristy plus the obligatory green and gold balloons.

Linda had many family members attend the evening including her "dashing husband Neil" who was the reason she came to Dudley United and her two boys Ethan and Ryan.

Her mum Jane from Coffs Harbour and cousin Toni from the South East were there to help Linda celebrate the evening.

There were also five of the current seven life members in attendance including Louise Thomas, Andrea Buick, Julie Helyar, Bev Johnson and Heather Coppins.

The big TV screen played photos of Linda's netball memories, including Premiership teams and celebrations at Mad Mondays and the teams dancing on the bar.

These photos included many netballers from the past 20 years and many great memories. Thanks to Della Childs for putting this together.

The night kicked off with a huge plateful of delicious hearty roast meat cooked all day Friday over hot coals by Jamie Helyar and vegetables prepared by the netball committee followed by apple crumble made by Eloise Wheaton.

All washed down with local wines and Linda's favourite Mojito cocktail which Shontae Jones was mixing up all night and Linda consumed too many to count.

Dudley United Netball Club's President Megan Harvie then gave a speech outlining Linda's many achievements for the club both as a player and a volunteer.

Linda was presented with her Life Membership badge by the clubs first life member, Louise Thomas and also a beautiful wooden platter filled with goodies from "Millie Mae's Pantry" and wine from False Cape Wines.

Maggie Patterson, KINA and Wisanger Life Member also attended the evening and congratulated Linda on her achievement and captured some great photos of the evening.

Life Member Julie Helyar then did an interview with Linda that was amusing and informative, trying to find out the real stories behind our newest life member's time at Dudley United.

Linda rated her best achievement for the club as gaining the $200,000 grant for the new netball clubrooms and seeing the build through from start to finish.

Her hardest opponent was Belinda Clifford from Parndana who always made you earn every goal.

Her best Dudley United Netball Team from the last twenty years included, Julie Helyar, Tash Boxer, Andrea Buick, Rachael Litster, Georgia Neave, Eloise Wheaton and Stacey Dezen. Julie commented that Linda would also definitely be in that team.

Linda has been involved in eight A-grade Premierships and also eight Mad Monday Celebrations! What was some of her fondest memories? She recalled dressing up in yellow wigs and superwomen and carrying Julie out of the Parndana phone booth, also the time the busload of players arrived at Annie Morris's farm out the West End and Annie had an esky ready for us and let us paint her old shed green and gold.

Plus, the numerous times we climbed the old tank at Pennington Bay turn off and painted it green and gold. The Dudley girls also traditionally have a "Nudie Run" across the oval at midnight on grand final night but I think we all agree "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" concerning the details.

Linda was asked if she was enjoying her comeback to netball this season and said she enjoyed the camaraderie in the team.

She also enjoyed the chance to mentor the younger girls in the team and help them to a few wins which the C grade have struggled with in the last three years.

Finally, Linda thanked the Dudley United Netball Club and her family and said how much she enjoyed being part of a great family friendly club and was looking forward to many good times ahead. - Julie Helyar

LINDA STOECKEL LIFE MEMBER

Linda Berden, started her netball carer with Wisanger as an E grader (what we call Netta now days). Her nanna Clorice Bates, mum Jayne & Bates aunties all played netball for Wisanger and were all involved behind the scenes with coaching, committees, umpiring etc. Linda's nana Clorice Bates is also a Life Member for Wisanger.
