The second place winners in the 2019 Islander pet photo competition have claimed their prize, a $100 voucher at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus.

Val Ordway won second prize with her picture of Chickie Chickie the silky bantam, pictured with her granddaughter Matilda, and who came from the only viable egg left after a clutch of 12 eggs was "addled", or made infertile, by a thunderstorm.

Val recently took grand kids Elke, Gracie and Matilda to Emu Ridge to choose a range of item from the voucher, and they also got to meet the latest orphaned joey, Ivy, being cared for by Bev Turner and her staff.

The Islander ran its annual pet photo competition for 2019 giving pet owners on Kangaroo Island a chance to show off their beloved companions, furry or otherwise.

The Commisioner for KI, Wendy Campana was asked to be judge.
