Kangaroo Island junior footballers have all played extremely well at the U15 and U17 Intrastate Championships in Adelaide.
The six KI lads are among the best teenage footballers from across South Australia putting their skills on display in the 2019 SANFL U15 and U17 Intrastate Championships held across metropolitan Adelaide from July 16-19.
The KI lads were in the starting line-up for the South Adelaide Football Club representing Country SA.
Souths' U15 squad featuring Koby Cockshell, Jayden Christophers and Thomas Snowball won their qualifying match on Thursday, making it into the Grand Final at Thebarton Oval on Friday, July 19.
Souths' U17 squad features Parndana juniors Bailey Gaskin, Mahaki Edwards and Brock Viney-Obst. Sadly their team has not done so well, but again all the KI boys played well.
Each non-AFL aligned SANFL club fielded a team selected from their Country and Metropolitan zones in the Under 15 and Under 17 competition, with the teams split into two divisions.
South Adelaide Under 15s and the KI lads won their first match on Tuesday with the last kick 41-38 and all boys contributed really well, with Koby among the goal scorers.
On Day 2, all three KI boys were on the starting line-up again and it was an even first quarter with Thomas and Jayden in the early plays.
At half time the Panthers were up 19 to 10. Thomas and Jayden were in the thick of it and teaming up well to push back through the half and centre.
The final score was 40-30, all three played really well and Koby kicked three goals.
In the qualifying final, Souths U15s played West Adelaide, winning 63 to 54 and landing themselves a spot in the Grand Final.
South Adelaide Football Club football manager Warren Ploenges said South Adelaide U15 Country Team had again enjoyed a fantastic week and find themselves with another shot of the Grand Final tomorrow at Thebarton Oval at 12.20pm.
"An integral part of the success of the team this week has been the contributions from Koby Cockshell, Jayden Christophers and Tom Snowball," Ploenges said.
"Koby has provided a great target up forward and helped out in the Ruck, Jayden ball winning ability and workrate have been outstanding whether on the ball or out on the wing and Thomas has been a strong presence again in the middle or down back.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the way the boys have performed.
"They have bought into the team direction and shown the confidence to really express themselves with their football. We look forward to the boys enjoying the experience of a Grand Final at Thebarton tomorrow."
Unfortunately it was not to be and after leading for most of the match, the Souths U15s boys lost the match to Norths by just one point.
All three KI boys played well, Koby in the ruck with Thomas and Jayden working hard out of the back and centre.
