The Australian Dental Association's (ADA) major oral health promotion, Dental Health Week, is upon us again.
As ADA members and firm believers in "a healthy smile comes from a healthy life," Kangaroo Island Dental is pleased to join in on the Dental Health Week celebrations.
Dental Health week this year runs from August 5-11 and is targeting 'How's your Oral Health Tracking?'
In our increasingly busy lives it is easy for us to let our oral health routine slide, including the basics such as brushing.
In fact, ADA reveals only 51 per cent of Australian adults reportedly brush their teeth twice daily, whist 47.8 per cent continue to consume too much sugar.
These are starling figures and is the one of reasons for ADA's theme this year. It is friendly reminder to us Australia's that we are primarily responsible for our own oral health, and questions whether or not we are on track, taking due care of our mouth. After all, we want our teeth for life!
The Kangaroo Island Dental team comments: "Poor oral health can result in debilitating pain and discomfort. Get your oral health on track by reducing snacking frequencies and maintaining a good oral health regime."
The Four Oral Basics are:
- Brush teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
- Clean in-between teeth once a day (with floss)
- Eat a healthy balanced diet and limit sugar intake
- Regularly visit the dentist for check-ups (twice yearly)
So if you're not already implementing healthy oral practices, a nutritious diet, drinking more water and visiting your dentist regularly, it's time to get your mouth on track! It is never too late; no matter what life stage you are in.
