Western Districts reports
A Grade: An overcast day at Western Districts and the start of the A Grade brought with it a light shower of rain. Both Teams started fast and strong and showed determination for the ball. Some great intercepts from Georgia and Emma G (WD) during the first quarter saw WD lead by one goal at the end of the first quarter.
Second quarter both teams settled early and produced some great match play. Defences for WD Lauren and Connie put pressure on Wisanger goalies Natalie and Amy. Carly (WD) shoot many long goals for Western Districts. Second quarter score WD 19- W 15.
Third quarter Wisanger came out firing and went up by four goals at the start of the quarter and to a mighty effort from both teams scores were level at three quarter time.
Last quarter WD made some unusual changes and everyone on the side lines was wondering what the coach was thinking. Wisanger got a consistant three goal lead through the quarter until the last five minutes when the big hearts of the WD girls pegged Wisanger back to win by 4 goals in an amazing finish. Congratulations to Julie and your team and to Wisanger for never giving up. Well played by all. Final score WD 38 def W 34.
D Grade: A strong start by both teams. Kalesha shone in centre for Parndana. Consistant work by the visitors saw them lead at half time. The home team fought back with accuracy in the ring by Millie, even after Chloe (WD) left the court due to the blood rule WD reclaimed the lead in the third quarter. Consistent defending by Sabrina and Tilly for WD in the fourth quarter. Western Districts pulled away in the last quarter to win 45 to 40 goals. Standout game by U15 player Kelesha (P).
13&U: A finals type game played out with both teams keen to settle their teams and structures ready for September - without giving too much away. The first half was a tight contest with Parndana showing continued improvement. The young Saints lifted their work rate, talk and energy to outscore Parndana as the game went on. Better players for WD were the defenders Grace and Molly, likewise for Parndana Shaylee was reading the ball well. Both teams showed some versatility as players were shuffled around. An interesting finals series looks likely.
11&U: A tough competition with excellent pressure by both teams. Strong work in the WD goals by the home team saw them draw ahead. Eyes on the ball saw many intercepts but also some inaccurate passes. Wisanger kept playing hard in the second half. There was fierce competition in the WD goal ring but they steadily increased their lead in a spirited and entertaining game. The final score didn't reflect the strong fight put up by Wisanger. Final score WD 19 def Wisanger1 6.
