The Kangaroo Island Calisthenics Club's Intermediate Team travelled to Adelaide on Sunday, September 1 to competed in theirlastState Championships.
The five girls - Sienna Putland, Hannah Florance, Tahnee Davis, Iiesha Kuchel and Abby Murray - travelled to Adelaide with their coach Kirby Fryar, costume reps Susan Davis and Cherie Kuchel and their group pep, Kate Murray.
They stayed at the Marion Holiday Park, who kindly gave the team 10 per cent discount on their accommodation.
On Monday, August 2 the girls undertook three hours practice on stage at the Royalty Theatre before returning to Marion to apply makeup and have hair done.
The team also enjoyed fantastic food provided by Lucy's KI Kitchen.
After some last minute costume alterations, the team took to the stage at 6pm for competitions.
It was fantastic to see a great bunch of supporters in the crowd, specially there to see our small group compete.
There were only two other clubs competing in our division, which meant that the girls had very quick costume changes back stage, but we did finish early too.
The team demonstrated their skills with commitment and enthusiasm, and placed 2nd in the March and 3rd in the other 5 items.
The girls had mixed emotions at the close of competitions because after seven years training, competing and performing together, they will not be returning to the stage next year.
Some girls are moving on to other activities and the club is unable to offer this age group in 2020.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports Kangaroo Island Calisthenics.
Participation in this event would not be possible without the support of Kangaroo Island SeaLink, Marion Holiday Park, Lucy's KI Kitchen, the KI Council, Elders and our many other sponsors. - Kate Murray
