The Kangaroo Island Dance School's Dance Group is holding two dance concerts at the Kingscote Town Hall.

The charity concert is Saturday, September 21 at 6pm, and a matinee Sunday, September 22 at 2pm.

Both professional and amateur dancers will be performing; including John Bancan, formally of the Hartford Ballet in the United States, and KI's very own Sherilee Binsted, who studied at the Barbara Jayne Dance Centre and danced for the South Australian Children's Ballet Company; both now locals here.

There's choreography from some of our local dance students. Dancers will be performing jazz, ballet, tap, modern, and even some of the toddlers from the dance school will get up and show us how it's done.

All proceeds from this fundraiser go to the KI Dance School's Dance Group (KIDS DG), an ACNC registered Not-for-profit Charity, that promotes Health and Education, and Dance as an Art form, in our local community here on KI.

The concert has sponsorship from The Lions Ladies Auxiliary Op Shop, Kangaroo Island Council, Willowswift, and local benefactors to help make it a success.

The charity was set up last year as part of the school's community ethos; where other schools often use performances as a way to make money and sometimes charge their students large amounts for costumes so they can be in the shows, the new school wanted to keep costs down for the students, and make dance more readily available to the community.

We have seen the volunteer dancers in the Kingscote Street Parade, and performing with the maypole at the Hospital Fete. Students at the school are encouraged to perform for local charities.

Ticket are available at the KI Dance School, at 13 Drew Street, Kingscote, and you can catch them during studio hours in the afternoons and evenings.

Tickets will also still be available at the door at the evening and matinee shows, $20 for Adults, and $10 for Children and Health Care Card holders.

For more information about the show, please call Jeff or John on 0497 856 344.

Please support this local charity, and come along for an enjoyable adventure in the world of dance.
