Western Districts' netballers break a 15-year drought | PHOTOS

Western Districts reigned supreme over Kangaroo Island on 2019 Grand Final day when the Club in the Scrub won both the A Grade netball and A Grade football.

It was almost a clean sweep in the netball for Wonks, in addition to the all important As, Districts won the C Grade, 15&Under, 13&Under and 11&Under shields.

Wisanger meanwhile received some consolation for not having any teams in the football this year by winning the B and D Grade KINA Shields.

It was a nail-biting finish in the A Grade and C Grade. The A's match between Districts and last year's premiers Dudley United went into double overtime.

The Wonks women walked away from the tight tussle victorious taking the KI Netball Association Shield to the western end for the first time in 15 years.

You can catch the football photos and reports at the Islander online and here are the KINA match reports from the big day at Kingscote.

A Grade: Western Districts vs Dudley United - The game went pretty much goal for goal in the first 10 minutes of the quarter.

Both teams didn't seem to be showing any nerves, as both settled into playing some great netball.

Dudley defenders Stacey Dezen and Kristy Tannebring rebounding the ball and turning the ball over for their team for Dudley United to take a 4 goal lead at the first break.

Dudley United making a change at the first break saw Ruby Gurney (DU) onto WA to bring some drive in the centre court.

Connie Rule (WD) defecting the ball in defence and having a great tussle with Emma Coppins-Dankiewicz.

Dudley United still up by four goals at half time. WD now making some changes with Carly Willmott into WD and Tanner Morris into GA for the third quarter.

Verity Carey (WD) shooting some great goals. WD winning the third quarter and now level at three-quarter time. Both teams wanting the win in the last quarter and both teams applying pressure up and down the court.

Tash Boxer (DU) creating space in the goal circle and running the WD defence around. Emma Boyle (WD) playing a nice steady game in the centre court. Scores level at the final whistle.

First overtime saw the game still level at 47 each. Next five mins saw WD wanting the ball a little more and turning the ball over to win the game by four goals. A great game to watch. Congratulations WD its been 15 years, so enjoy your celebrations!

B Grade: Wisanger v Western Districts - Both teams played a very hard, physical game in the B Grade Grand Final.

Wisanger got off to a strong start in the first quarter, shooting well and getting a seven goal lead at the first break.

WD came back to the court, playing intense, purposeful netball. Good feeding into the ring and effective shooting meant WD outscored Wisanger in the second quarter to even up the game.

In the third quarter, Wisanger jumped out of the blocks with Renae creating play and Louise shooting well at their goal end.

Bridie and Mel working hard for Wisanger in defence, making it hard for Westies to finish it off with goals.

Well done to WD in the fourth quarter for their hard fought comeback and defensive work. Wisanger proving too strong, keeping a six goal lead to the end.

Congratulations to Bec Bennet and the Wisanger B Grade girls. A well deserved premiership.

C Grade: Western Districts vs Parndana - It was a Grand Final to remember with lots of turnovers as fast-paced Parndana with Wurst Freebairn and Bowden leading the way.

Long time between goals but soon many with a WD Goal and a quick reply with Parndana's White.

It was a tight tussle between Parndana's GS Havelburg and WD's GK Nolan in height and strength.

Parndana had most of the play but with any chance of WD Goalies Speed and Buick getting one in and over the Height of GK Wilson had to be encouraged.

Half time Parndana was up by five with Whale in GS in the third for Saints took the court and the voice of encouragement from Larcombe mad all the difference.

WD got the first goal for the third quarter and three quick ones put the Saints back in the game goal for goal with neither team capitalising in the opposition's centre pass, young gun Nolan running the whole game for in centre.

The tight game resulted in equal 22 point at full-time WD resulted in first goal in time on.

Now with the time on again it was 30 all each side out of puff but WD were full of adrenaline as they took the two-goal win. Alana Nolan proved once again MVP in C grade by winning Best on Court. WD 33 to P31.

D Grade: Wisanger vs Kingscote - Wisanger came out roaring to go in the first quarter with a quick couple of goals to get in front.

Kingscote kept the fight up all game by not allowing Wisanger to get more than a few goals in front. It was a close tough game with Wisanger coming out to be the Premiers of 2019.

15&Under: Western Districts versus Wisanger - Another great day for Finals Netball at Kingscote. The top 2 teams of the Minor Round 15/Unders preparing to battle it out for the flag.

A close first quarter, WD goalies Tilly Bald and Chloe Pitman shooting well and keeping Wisanger's defenders Hannah Florance and Ella Warner on their toes.

Tahlia Florance and Opriss Osborne for Wisanger made West. Districts centre court work hard with great defensive pressure down court.

Western Districts leading by 3 at the 1/4 break. Some changes made by Wisanger, Zoe Berden into C, provided great drive and put morePressure on WD's pocket rocket Evie Hammat.

WD bringing on Raemi Morris into GD trying to tame Panther's GA Kali Turner.

Tight defensive pressure from WD's Amber Nimmo in GK saw WD stretching their lead at the break. More changes by both teams going into the Premiership Qtr. Gracie Nolan worked well in WD for Wisanger while best on court for the match WD's Camilla, working like a Trojan the whole game.

WD's leading by 10 going into the last Qtr. Panthers weren't prepared to let the match slip away.

Some excellent defence by the Panther's team, plus great shooting by Seraphina Snowball and Kali saw the game came to a nail-biting finish, WD holding on to gain the much deserved 15&Under Premiership for 2019. A wonderful Grand Final by both teams.

13&Under: Western Districts vs Pardana - The Grand final morning presented with near perfect conditions, sunny with a cool breeze.

The Parndana and Western Districts 13 and Under girls came together in great spirit. The first half was a tight battle with the scores close at quarter and half time.

Sophie and Raemi were a lovely team in goals for Western Districts and Kelesha worked well with Shaylee to defend strongly.

In the centre third Alex Sarsha, Regan and Maddie battled Amahli, Grace Rose, Dakota and Evie.

Parndana continued to keep their heads high in attack as Lani and Layla shot well with Molly and Belle in defence.

The third quarter was very strong by Western Districts and the margin became wider in favour of Western Districts.

The Parndana girls fought until the end but were defeated by a better side on the day. Congratulations to the girls who played a hard fought game in great spirits!
