With the off-season sports finally winding down, it's time to start getting excited about Kangaroo Island's summer of cricket.
The biggest news coming out of the Kangaroo Island Cricket Association is the return of the Hog Bay Razorbacks.
A big boost for KI cricket, Hog Bay's return will bring about both a sixth Junior team and a fifth senior team.
To kick the 2019/20 season off, Hog Bay will be hosting last year's grand finalists Parndana, who are certainly looking to go one better this year.
The first game of the season will be on Saturday, October 26.
The other match will be hosted by Kingscote against Western Districts, which should give a good indication for both sides after some changes in personnel during the winter break.
Both games will be great viewing, so make sure to come out and support local cricket.
Finals this year will commence on the weekend of March 7-8, with the Preliminary Final the following Sunday, March 15 and the Grand Final finishing everything up at Parndana on March 21.
Some may notice that this season is shorter than previous years, but thanks to a change in how the T20 Shovel Shield is scheduled, there is in fact more cricket.
This year, Hog Bay will be hosting a T20 Carnival on December 14, which will see 10 T20 games played over one weekend, eight of which to be hosted by Hog Bay Cricket Club.
It will see all five senior teams in action at the same oval across the Saturday and Sunday, plus an additional two matches held at Kingscote and Parndana on the Friday evenings.
Make sure to come out and support this initiative, as the top place team of the tournament will win the Shovel Shield and qualify to play at Rapid Bay in the T20 Country Cup.
Last year's winners, Parndana Cricket Club, will be heading across the ditch on November 10, so if anyone is on the mainland it would be the perfect chance to see last year's champion T20 club represent KI.
In addition to Parndana, there are the perennial Callaby and Fuller Shield teams for the Juniors that will be representing KICA this year, Kangaroo Island will be hosting the Meyer Shield.
Over January 25-17, we will be hosting the best country cricketers in the State, so be sure to check out our boys in action.
It's set to be an exciting season, so make sure to check the program due out this week. - Right Arm Very Ordinary
