Sail training at the Kangaroo Island Yacht Club began on Saturday, October 26 under the expert tutelage of Graham Barrett.
Graham has come back after a long absence to offer his knowledge and is ably assisted by other old salts, Richard Ley, Graham Langsford, Steve Gregor and Maggie Patterson.
Nine eager youngsters and three adults arrived and were soon managing the intricacies of figure of eight and bowline knots before rigging the Pacers.
Graham decided upon studying the unpredictable weather blowing in strong gusts up to 18 knots from the Sou'West to demonstrate how to launch a Pacer and call it a day for the learners.
Only three dingies went to sea for the afternoon sail, the Haselgrove combination, the father and son Morgan duo and Oscar was happy to have a skipper and Richard Ley took out Nathan Russell.
By this time the weather had moderated to around 10-12 knots so a triangle, sausage triangle port course was set and sailed before Old Nick changed his mind and blew up again.
No sailing next Saturday because of the Kingscote Show. - The Scribe
