Conditions were perfect at Parndana on Sunday for the annual Kangaroo Island Under 17 East versus West game of cricket.
East, coached by Damien Berden, won the toss and decided to bowl first. West, coached by Georgia Weatherspoon, opening batsmen were Riley Boyle and Rory Florance.
West started off steady with some smart and sensible batting. Bailey Gaskin and Callum Bowell started off the bowling with some great line and length.
Aidan Bowell putting the ball in great areas keeping the run rate down. West made it to lunch with 0/66.
A steady foundation with 19 wickets still in the shed. After lunch Riley and Rory began to attack a bit more and got the runs flowing.
Some great hitting, with an amazing unbeaten partnership of 170, with Riley Boyle 66 no out and Rory Florance 72 not out.
Top innings boys. Jackson Lockett came in and put on a show smashing a quick 35 to help the total reach 228 off 45 overs.
East opening batsmen were Callum Bowell and Wade Berden. West started off nicely with some tight bowling from the openers with Jackson Lockett and Luke Shurven hitting good areas.
Some steady batting from Callum Bowell until he had to retire and run off to play seniors.
Luke Shurven picking up two important wickets early getting Isaac Trethewey and Bailey Gaskin out cheap.
Young Colton Trethewey having a good crack, making it hard for the fielders. The bowlers were rotated so everyone had a bowl.
West bowlers seemed to be too good on the day reducing East to under 100. Some excellent bowling from the youngsters seeing Tait Florance and Dallas Clarke picking up wickets.
