The draft Penneshaw 2040 Vision has been released by the Penneshaw Progress Association following a month of community consultation.

Two open days have been scheduled in late November to allow for public review prior to finalisation of the document.

The open days are 10am to 2pm on Friday, November 29 and 10am to 12noon on Saturday, November 30 at the Penneshaw Hall.

2040 Vision facilitator, Dr David Mepham, said two previous workshops held in October had clarified the key issues and opportunities for the future of the town.

The first workshop was with local stakeholders and the Kangaroo Island Council and the second with local school children.

"Locals, including students, have been very enthusiastic about the visioning process," Dr Mepham said.

"Based on their feedback we are articulating a positive vision for an attractive and resilient town centre: a vision with our seaside, farming and heritage values at its core.

"The 2040 Vision is something the community will feel they can own and build on."

Key issues identified included balancing growth and new development with the desire for services, notably health and transport, he said.

"There is also a desire to improve local access, especially safe walking and cycling paths and to calm traffic," he said.
