Parndana puts up brave fight against Noarlunga in Statewide T20 Champions Cup

Parndana has been eliminated from the Statewide T20 Champions Cup by Noarlunga, but not without some fight.

The cricket match was played at Penneshaw on Sunday as the Noarlunga made their way across the ditch to Kangaroo Island.

Losing the toss and getting sent in, it was nearly a tragic start for the local Rooster lads as Havelberg survived a close shout for LBW first ball.

He then went on to get given a life on 7 and again on 12, as Noarlunga were unable to take the most of chances that came their way early.

He and Zac Trethewey made them pay, punishing some loose bowling.

Ray conceded 28 from his four overs and Kasanto 21 from only two, as Havelberg especially began to find the boundary. It took until the 10th over for Noarlunga to make a breakthrough, as Scarff got through Trethewey for 24.

This did little to slow Havelberg, who began to find the boundary more regularly, as he rode his luck, hitting five fours and three sixes in his 76 until caught on the boundary in the 13th over, again from the bowling of Scarff.

This sparked a collapse, as Parndana lost 8/6, which included Grindley, Florance and Scott Cooper all out for golden ducks as Scarff ran riot, finishing with 6/18.

It took the steadying hands of Ethan and Damian Trethewey to steer Parndana to a competitive total of 7/138 from their 20 overs.

Noarlunga came out after the innings break with intent, racing away to 0/47 during the fielding restrictions.

It took a very special grab from the Parndana skipper Matthew Cooper to remove Alderman, taking a jumping one-handed at mid on.

It did little to damped the run rate however, as Burgess (72*) continued to score freely.

He combined with Scarff for 67 runs, until Brown undid Scarff in the 15th over, with Havelberg completing a sharp stumping and Isaac Trethewey the next over had Russell caught, leaving Noarlunga still with 21 needed from the final four overs.

Unfortunately for the Islanders it wasn't to be, as Scarff lead Noarlunga home. A competitive effort from the Parndana lads, who were far from disgraced on the day. - Right Arm Very Ordinary
