The Parndana Agricultural, Horticultural and Floricultural Show Society inaugural general meeting was held on Tuesday, August 21, 1956 at the Recreation Hall in the Parndana East campsite at 8pm.
Business included election of officers and general business, all interested were invited to attend and ladies were asked to bring a basket.
The founding committee elected was, President; Mr. S. Sheriadan, Vice President; Mr. J. A. Tremaine, Hon. Secretary and Treasurer; Mr. B. J. Baldwin, Executive Committee; B. Fernandez, G. Lowe, H. West and J. Hable.
During the early days of the society and the show, events were held at the Parndana East campsite. On November 16th 1957 the first show was held.
Five more show were to follow this at the campsite during the time of the soldier settlement scheme while land continued to be cleared for farming and the township of Parndana was established.
From 1963 to 1965 the society fell into recess as the facilities of the campsite were no longer available to the society. During this time the society worked to establish the oval grounds in Parndana and a location to build a suitable building to host show events.
1966 saw the return of the show with outdoor events held at the Parndana oval, while indoor exhibits placed in the newly built Parndana Hall. Show events have been going ever since, with a continued growth in attendance.
The society in its lifetime is honoured to have had 376 people to date participate and assist with the running of the show.
Grateful for their help over the years in rolls from presidents and committee members to convenors, all positions held have been greatly appreciated and the show would not happen without their continued support each year.
On Saturday November 16th the 60th Parndana show will be held and the theme to this year's event is celebrating 60 years.
The society would like your support in helping to celebrate our history and all the people that have worked with us over the years.
As part of this celebration the society has asked our life members to officially open the show.
Over our time we have had 17 dedicated and hardworking people that have been honoured with life membership.
This year I am honoured to be the president of the society as the show has been a long standing tradition with my family sense its inauguration in 1956.
This year will mark my fifth time as president and makes me a third generation president of the society.
Following in the path of grandfather Jack Tremaine, life member, vice president of the first committee and president six times in 61, 62, 74, 75, 81 and 82 and my father Mervyn Tremaine, life member, president 10 times in 87, 88, 89, 98, 99, 04, 05, 15, 16 and 17.
I would like to welcome the community to attend this year's event, set to be one for the whole family and a celebration to remember." - Nicholas Tremaine
