First game for the 2019 Kangaroo Island softball season

First game for the Kangaroo Island softball season was played between Western Districts and Panthers on Tuesday, November 12 at Wisanger.

A big welcome to all the Juniors, Molly Watters, Harmony and Sonny Boy Mauheni for Western Districts and Nick and Tayah Shurven and Bree and Alexis Whiting for Panthers.

Westies were first to bat and April Larcombe and Rachael Pratt back after a long absence from the game along with Emma Gaskin scored the first three runs for Westies.

Panthers scored nine in their first innings and westies six to panthers one in the second.

With only one run difference the game was promising to be a close contest. However Westies scored ten runs and the mercy rule in the third and crept away from Panthers outscoring them finally at time and game at the completion of the fourth innings 25 - 19.

Home runs were scored by April Larcombe, Rachael Pratt and Janine Mauheni for Westies and Katie Whiting two for Panthers and Julz Hansen with a promising home run whose legs ran out of puff at third base.

Panther Juniors played well with Nick Shurven at left field and Bree Whiting on second and Molly Watters at short stop for Westies.

Many thanks to Karaitiana Warena for umpiring and Iris Warena for scoring. Next week's match is between Parndana and Westies out at the Club in the Scrub. - Maggie Patterson
