A crowd of over 400 people descended on the Stokes Bay Hall for the annual fireworks fundraising night. A huge number of kids spent the evening chasing each other, enjoying glow sticks and laughing whilst their parents cooked BBQ’s and chatted to friends. John Stanton pumped out the sausages to a hungry mob, the glow stick girls did a roaring trade and Paul Houston kept the night lively with a mix of tunes.
As people warmed themselves by bonfires, Ben Wilks auctioned a range of accommodation and gifts. Bidders in the spirit of fundraising bought what they didn’t need or paid too much whilst some got a bargain. A few notable moments included Anne Jamieson realising she was out of wine and bid frenetically, Michael Stanton out bid Dad, Richard for the Emu Bay accommodation and Hugh Kelly buying a lifetime’s supply of wine (three bottles) to fix his ailing injuries from bowls.
After the auction it was time for the main event with Sean from Star Fireworks to light the fuse. A fiery explosion hushed the crowd as the fireworks started and kept everyone’s eyes glued to the sky as we were entertained with a great variety of colour and explosions. With old favourites and new entertaining fireworks it finished with a finale that left flashes imprinted on the retinas. After the big bonfire was lit it was time for more socialising or getting the kids home to bed.
The Stokes Bay community would like to thank our sponsors who contribute generously, Ben Wilks our auctioneer, the crowd and the bidders who came and created a great atmosphere.
Next year the fireworks will be on again and we look forward to enjoying your company there.
