LIFE MEMBERS: Chris Downing, Kelly Fogden, Michael Mills, Leah Couchman and Phil Cooper at the Parndana Golf Club Life Membership Dinner.

Parndana Golf Club celebrated the awarding of three Life Memberships with a dinner at Parndana Hotel on Friday, November 22.

Cub president Dale Paxton welcomed all guests and started the evening with a presentation to the Club Champions for 2019.

The men's Captain, Greg Church, presented a prize to Men's Champion, Dale Paxton.

Unfortunately Pauline Rowsell, who broke the course record this year and was 2019 Women's Champion, was unable to attend.

The dinner was a happy occasion shared with more than fifty guests including friends and relatives of the new Life Members, club members and three of the four previous Life Members of the club.

The three Life Memberships were awarded to Janice Mills (posthumous), Phil Cooper and Chris Downing.

All three had been members of the club for more than 20 years and each had given astounding service and commitment to the golf club.

Janice was a great leader within the golf club, an inspiring golfer, a mentor and friend. Her presence and influence at the club will always be missed. Her award was proudly accepted by her two daughters Leah Couchman and Kelly Fogden.

Chris Downing explained that when he retired the golf club became his 'job'. His work mowing the course, rain or shine, is exemplary. He is a character of the club with many entertaining stories to tell.

Phil Cooper, also, spends an amazing amount of time preparing the course, cleaning out limbs and sticks from under the trees, watering tee blocks and countless other jobs.

He shared some of the funny stories that abound at the club especially from past years when there were many more players than there are now.

These two men are to be commended for the wonderful condition of the golf course. The many voluntary hours they spend preparing the course for the club members and visitors is appreciated by us all.

It was a great night, a lovely meal and guests stayed on to share lots of stories and laughs at the end of the presentations.

The awards to our new Life Members are a fitting recognition of the enormous contribution these three members have given to our club. - Helen Wurst
