Speed shearing competition back inside Parndana Hotel on Kangaroo Island | PHOTOS

The Kangaroo Island Speed Shears Competition has made a welcome return on Saturday, December 13 after an absence of six years last being held in 2013.

The Parndana Hotel dining room was turned into a shearing shed with the shearing board built by Steve Larcombe and was packed to capacity for the event.

Shane Matthews did an excellent job as compere and Jayden Freitag supplied the music. There was a big crowd watching as the local shearers competed to see who could shear the fastest up on the stage.

The crossbred lambs were supplied by Andrew Fogden.

The major sponsors were Platinum Livestock who donated the $1500 prize to the Open Shearer winner and Stu Sandilands a $1000 with $800 going to the Intermediate winner.

All the minor sponsors donated $250 each to the event, Weerkat Transport, Loxklands Seed Potatoes, Glencorrie Border Leicester Stud, L.C. Electrical and Laser Line Fencing. - Maggie Patterson
