A recent fundraiser held at the Flinders Park Football Club generated $6000 in funding for the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund.
The Adelaide footy club's A grade captain Daniel Blythe has family ties on the island, as does former chairman Damien Gallacher.
The KI cause was close to the club's hearts and they were particularly touched by the loss of facilities and equipment at fellow sports club Western Districts.
In the week leading up to the fundraiser, Daniel organised a sports clothing and bottled water donation drive also with significant donations.
The club then held a "Big Bash For Fire Cash" event on Saturday, January 18, featuring Flinders Park footballers in a T20 cricket match, entertainment and plenty of raffles and other fundraising activities.

Speaking for the club about the fundraising is Josh Keain:
"It is with great pleasure that the Flinders Park Football Club makes a donation of $6000 to the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund today.
"The amazing total includes all proceeds from our 'Big Bash For Fire Cash' raffles and activities, some sizeable personal donations from club members and our Executive Committee, and of course a donation on behalf of the club.
"We couldn't be prouder of our community who came together as one for a very worthy cause, and all the organising committee that put together a fantastic event on very short notice.
"The large crowd in attendance were treated to a close cricket match (won narrowly by Team Muirhead defending 150) and excellent entertainment by Zac Gerhardy Music. A huge thank you to all those who generously donated their time, services or raffle prizes on the night!"
