Kangaroo Island Dragon Boat Club holds 'hat regatta' at American River this Saturday, February 8

Kangaroo Island Dragon Boat Club are holding a "Hat Regatta" this Saturday, Feb 8 at American River, Pelican Lagoon.

This has attracted over 75 participants from all over South Australia. There are 10 fund events where their names are put into a hat and every race is with a different group of people

There's the Dress Up race, the Funny Hat race, a 1000m paddling race, and a version of the TV show "Survivor" race, where the paddlers go over to Strawbridge point, park the dragon boat and sprint to find the hidden treasure, they then hop back into the boat and paddle to the finish line.

The Copper Coast Dragon Boat club are holding a raffle and a 3-legged race on the Oval as a Fund Raiser for the KI community bushfire recovery funds.

More than 100 people from SA are staying in American River and Island Beach for this event, a much needed boost for the Kangaroo Island tourism economy badly impacted by the recent bushfire crisis.

The presentations will be held on Saturday night at The Shed, where we are have a dinner cooked by the American River Sports and Recreation legend and 2020 KI Citizen of the Year, Jane Guider.

The Dragon Boat SA management committee are making an announcement and presentation to the KI Dragon Boat Club at the dinner, as well as awards given.

No "Come n Try" but plenty of spectator fun, with food available and music by Sam Oshedi on the Wharf. It kicks off at 9am this Saturday and continues until 4pm.
