2020 Kangaro Island Sprint race event adds car cruise to boost tourism

The 2020 Kangaroo Island Sprint has been expanded to include a car cruise in an effort to boost tourism and morale.

The quarter-mile Sprint drag race event will take place on Arranmore Road just out of Kingscote as usual.

But this year organisers are trying to help out Kangaroo Island in the wake of the bushfires by getting people to visit.

"We are involved in the car scene in Adelaide and have been pooling our resources to get around 25 cars, some muscle, some modern, over to the Island," Darren Crabb said.

The cruise is on Saturday, March 7. Meet at the Kingscote Football Oval at 9am. There is no cost for the cruise.

The cars will be stopping at the Parndana Hotel for a lunch from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

The route will go via the fire affected national park and the Western Districts Community Club, which got hit and needs rebuilding.

"We would like to get the community involved by providing car rides for Islanders, if you wish to participate with your vehicle," Mr Crabb said.

There will then be a Show and Shine on Saturday afternoon at the KI Brewery at 2pm. Community car rides for Islanders if you wish to participate with your vehicle.

Then the actual Sprint race takes place at Arranmore Road at 10.30am on Sunday, March 8. Scruiteneering is from 7.30am to 9.30am.

The Sprint race has started up a website, which also has some info on it. www.kisprint.com.au
