Before the recent urgency of social distancing, a delegation from the Victor Harbor Social Dancing Association travelled to Kangaroo Island with community spirit in mind.

Aiming to support KI's own social dancing scene as well as the wider community by injecting tourist dollars into the bushfire affected community, the group enjoyed some quality time on the island over three days.

The group spent one evening assisting with dance sessions before attending the fortnightly dance in Kingscote the following night.

A group spokesperson said it was "great fun for everyone and lifted the spirits of all involved," while also raising $180 for the KI Mayoral Relief Fund.

During their stay, the group also spent time touring the island in an opportunity to see first-hand some of the bushfire damage and the beginning of the recovery in the less intensely affected areas.

Various businesses were the better for the group's visit, as a conscious effort was made to call in and spend something as they travelled from place to place.

Many meals and morning and afternoon teas were enjoyed, with an emphasis was on locally sourced ingredients, like lavender scones, home-made honey ice cream and delicious fresh seafood.

"All in all, it was a great experience for the members of the two dancing groups to meet and mingle, and it could become an event that we repeat sometime in the future," the spokesperson said.

Along with many other organisations, the Victor Harbor Social Dancing Association has decided to go into recess for the time being, due to Covid-19.

When the situation has improved, and the health authorities give the go-ahead, then dancing will re-commence. Those on the group's contact list will be kept up to date by email.
