Sport on Kangaroo Island kicks off this Saturday, July 4 when the juniors take to the football ovals and netball courts.

The Kangaroo Island Netball Association has decided to follow the lead of the football league and only run junior competition for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kangaroo Island Football League 2020 competition will see two rounds for the Under 12s and Senior Colts, with matches taking place on Saturday mornings.

This Saturday, Dudley United hosts Parndana and Wisanger hosts Kingscote, while Western Districts has the bye.

For netball, KINA president Alana Hinton said the 11, 13 and 15 and under competitions would also begin this Saturday, following the football program.

Only the 11 and under competition had all five clubs involved, but the rest would match the footy program as best as possible.

KINA was also looking at having a special competition for the 16 and over girls who normally played in the seniors.

The association also wanted to make sure its Southern Academy players Kali Turner and Tahnese Childs were "netball fit".

KIFL secretary Cathie Tydeman said it was important to have a program in place to provide certainty for families and clubs.

"We honestly can't wait to see our young ones out having a kick soon!"
