As Kangaroo Island recovers from drought, a catastrophic summer of fires and COVID-19 restrictions, social activities that promote personal wellbeing and community togetherness are essential.
A KI Spring Garden Festival, run by locals for locals, is one activity that could achieve this end.
Organisers Jennie Teasdale, Kaylene Graham, Caroline Taylor and Anne Morrison are working to put together a program of one-day open gardens over a number of weeks in October and November.
Enthusiastic gardeners around Kingscote, American River, Pelican Lagoon, Penneshaw and even in fire affected areas have offered to open their gardens.
Entry will be free to each garden, though some may ask for a gold coin donation to support their favourite charity.
With COVID restrictions to be followed, we hope to encourage visitors to bring their own picnic and maybe have food vans such as Cuppa Joey Coffee and KI Rolled Ice-cream available for refreshments.
Each garden owner will be totally responsible for their own event, though we plan to have public liability insurance cover and some signage for each garden.
Anyone who would like to be involved can contact Anne on 0428 955 598 or Jennie on 0417 876 427 for more information.
