Life coach Tracy Secombe recently held a mindfulness retreat Emu Bay for Kangaroo Island locals, including those recently affected by the bushfire disaster.

During the retreat, Tracy taught the group ways to reduce anxiety including meditation, yoga, journaling and conscious eating.

Just before the Christmas 2019 bushfires on KI, she was setting up an event for her eighth Soul Pleaser Retreat to be held in Bali.

"When I saw the news of the bushfires, I pulled the event down and changed it to KI so that we could support local businesses on KI and raise money for the recovery," Tracy said.

"At the time, I didn't know what accommodation would be standing but people booked in any way in good faith waiting to see what would unfold."

Her connection to Kangaroo Island comes not only from lovely family holidays there with her husband and three children and staying with friends with Island holiday homes.

But she also knows KI from coaching a number of farmers in her role as head coach at Farm Owner's Academy, created by Kangaroo Island veterinarian Greg Johnsson.

Angela Mason, who runs a farm with her husband and three sons, heard about Kate Buck and her family and Tim Buck's parents both losing their homes and the farm in the fires.

So Angela kindly sponsored Kate to attend the retreat.

Tracy meanwhile sponsored Sabrina Davis, who also lost her home.

Annie and Rick Morris both attended, who salvaged their home but lost a significant part of their farm's stock and infrastructure.

The retreat participants raised $2135, which was donated to KI Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund.

The retreat also supported and employed the services and facilities of Emu Holiday Homes, Lucy's KI Kitchen and Phillipa Holden from Spirit Yoga KI.
