Kangaroo Island student Toby McLaren shaved off his blonde curls for the World's Greatest Shave, reaching his goal of $1000.
Toby shaved his hair on Thursday, September 17 in front of his classmates at the Kingscote campus of Kangaroo Island Community Education.
Doing the shaving was local hairdresser Christine Sheridan from Salon 49 as Toby's class watched on.
He was going to do the shave at the well-being Colour Run at the Kingscote campus, but that event was postponed by a day due to weather.
"He had been growing his hair for 2.5 years and felt very proud afterwards, as we are of him too," teacher and R5 student wellbeing leader Hannah Morgan said.
His message on his Greatest Shave web page is:
"The beautiful blond curls I've been growing for 2 years have got to go! I'm on a mission to shave the world from blood cancer.
"Please sponsor me to give families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need. You'll also fund vital research to help more people survive blood cancers, while improving their quality of life.
"Every day another 41 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer. That's one Aussie every 36 minutes. Although research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours. Will you help by sponsoring me?"
