Kangaroo Island resident Tim Gibbs was devastated when someone stole his electric bike and only means of transport earlier this month.

The community and his colleagues from 5KIx-FM community rallied to raise the funds to buy him a replacement electric bike.

Tim says thanks for the bike...

"I want to thank the community and I wouldn't be given this same opportunity living in Adelaide," Tim said.

"I was thinking I was going to have to try and buy a replacement but now I don't have to. It shows how wonderful this community is."

His Leitner electric bike for the last three years had been his only transport around town.

He acknowledges he should have locked his bike up when he left out in front of his house on Kohinoor Road in Kingscote one Saturday evening a few weeks ago.

But KI residents in general are used to not having to lock up in what is usually a very safe community. A report was made to the Island police.

"I mentioned it to Pete Nash at the coffee shop and it got rolling from there," he said.

Coin jars were placed at Chocol'Art coffee shop, Cafe Scrumptious at Frogs 'n Roses and also Kildea Chemist.

Lucy Fox also raised funds at the Ozone Hotel Social Club, while Tiff and Kathy from KI Complete brought the bike over from the mainland.

Tim also received two vouchers to Cafe Scrumptious from the cafe owner and also from the Expressions in Colour painters.

He said he was most grateful for the new bike and the vouchers and also for the opportunity to do his radio show on 5KIx-FM every Friday afternoon.
