Country Fire Services have this week announced the start and finish dates for the majority of the South Australian fire danger districts.

However, dates for Kangaroo Island, Mount Lofty Ranges and metropolitan Adelaide are yet to be confirmed, but are expected soon.

Fire danger seasons will begin first for the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, Lower Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral and West Coast this Sunday, November 1.

CFS chief officer Mark Jones said that with recent rainfall, many districts will start restrictions on their traditional starting dates.

"A milder start to the season than in previous years means we will see the commencement of the Fire Danger Season for many areas at a time that residents were traditionally more used to," he said.

"With no need for the starts to be brought in early, as in previous years, there should be no surprises for residents in these districts who have been preparing their properties."

Yet the Fire Danger Season start means restrictions in districts become legally enforceable.

Confirmed fire danger season dates are:

  • Eastern Eyre Peninsula: November 1, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • Flinders: November 1, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • Lower Eyre Peninsula: November 15, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • Lower South East: December 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021
  • Mid North: November 15, 2020 to April 30, 2021
  • Murraylands: November 15, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • North East Pastoral: November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021
  • North West Pastoral: November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021
  • Riverland: November 15, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • Upper South East: November 15, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • West Coast: November 1, 2020 to April 15, 2021
  • Yorke Peninsula: November 15, 2020 to April 30, 2021

Mr Jones added that now is the perfect time to prepare for the oncoming season and update Bushfire Survival Plans.
