Parndana into Kangaroo Island Cricket Grand Final, account for Hog Bay

Parndana have qualified for the 2021 Kangaroo Island Cricket Association Grand Final, accounting for Hog Bay by eight wickets at Western Districts on Saturday.

The tone was set early by the minor premiers.

Linke and Moorehead were steady, but Isaac Trethewey in the 7th over had Moorehead trapped in front and then only three balls later had Gurney poking one straight to square leg.

Things only got better when Davis had Kirby spooning to cover first ball of the next over and suddenly Hog Bay had lost 3/1 in seven balls.

It was then down to Moorehead and Buick to rebuild the innings for Hog Bay.

Patient batting and good stroke play seemed to have them get Hog Bay back on top, but a disastrous run out that saw both batters at one end had Moorehead walking back for a well compiled 27.

Another breakthrough in the next over saw Buick caught and Parndana were back on top, with the score 5/63 at drinks.

It could have been even better for the minor premiers, as Gaskin dropped a sharp chance off the final ball before drinks which would have seen the back of Howard.

After drinks though, Parndana ran through Hog Bay. Horjus (3/30) picked up both Neville and Clark in an over and again Hog Bay lost another wicket in the next over with Wurst trapping Howard LBW.

Three overs later Horjus picked up his third, with Martain well caught by a running Zach Trethewey on the boundary and Hog Bay were 9/73, having lost another cluster of 4/6.

A good final wicket partnership of 16 runs saw Hog Bay make it to 89 before Boers walked at Cooper and saw himself stumped, much to the disapproval of the former opening bowler.

Parndana had what seemed to be a difficult half an hour period to bat before dinner, with Hog Bay looking at taking early wickets to get back in the match.

However, the leading run scorer for the Association (with 553 runs at an average of 138.25) had other ideas.

Gurney started well and managed to sneak one under Gaskins bat, giving Hog Bay an early breakthrough, but up the other end Trethewey was taking down the attack.

16 runs from Clark's third over saw him out of the attack and then a no-ball six to start for Buick had sitting nicely at 1/49 as tea was called.

After the tea interval, Kuchel fell to Gurney giving him his second (2/14) but that was all the luck Hog Bay would have.

Trethewey (59*) and Horjus (19*) saw the Roosters home, though not in a chance-less partnership.

Trethewey was dropped in the deep on 38 and Horjus edged behind and was put down on six, but by that stage the bulk of the work had been done.

Parndana in the end cruised to victory in the 20th over, earning a Grand Final berth and a week off.

For Hog Bay, it's a second chance in a Preliminary final, as they face MacGilivray at the MCG, in what promises to be a brilliant match. - Right Arm Very Ordinary
