International Dog Day is marked on August 26 every year, and what better way to celebrate than with photos of our readers' dogs?
First established in 2004 as National Dog Day, pet and family lifestyle advocate Colleen Paige wanted to acknowledge the roles dogs play in people's lives.
It was the date Colleen's family adopted her first dog, Sheltie, from the local animal shelter.
The day was created to raise awareness of dog adoption and to support rescue centres.
Not only does it celebrate family dogs, it also recognises that dogs work in a variety of situations to help save lives, keep people safe, and bring comfort.
It also supports every breed of dog.
