The Royal Flying Doctor Service Day fundraising day at the Birchmore Bowls Club on Kangaroo Island was a resounding success with a record $2562 raised on the day.
The rain held off long enough for 67 players, including 19 new players, to fill the rinks for the annual fundraising event.
A delicious lunch was served by the RFDS KI Support Group then the players hit the greens, ignoring the chill in the air and the clouds overhead.
The spectators were well rugged up while they enjoyed the fun on the rinks while our roving emcee Jeff Beal kept a look out for any fodder to "fine" the players to help fill the RFDS coffers.
This provided much laughter later on at the presentations.
Winners of the day on 51 points were S. Boxer, R. Cass, T. Hoerbolt and W. Stancliffe.
Second place after a count back on 43 points went to T. Lehmann, M. Lehmann, G. Black and G. Wachmer.
Third place on 43 were R. Kaehne, D. West, C. Barrett and P. Johnson.
It was great to see this very important service supported by the community and a big thank-you to all who participated.
Also thank you to RFDS support group who did a great job and to all the helpers from Birchmore for all their work to make the day the success it was. - Brenda Beal
