Sydney hospitality group poised to take over The Sir George hotel in Jugiong, NSW

Iconic regional NSW pub The Sir George is under offer, with an experienced Sydney hospitality group expected to finalise the sale contract by early next week.

CBRE Hotels have remained tight-lipped on who the new owners are for now, however, the sale price is expected to be in the mid-$10 million range.

It follows a month-long sale campaign for the Jugiong institution on the state's South West Slopes.

Built in 1845, the hotel was taken over by mother-daughter duo Liz Prater and Kate Hufton, who purchased the run-down pub in 2015 for $550,000, CoreLogic records show.

Under their ownership, the pub has been transformed into an iconic road trip pitstop for travellers along the Sydney-Melbourne and Canberra-Wagga Wagga routes.

The business now comprises a restaurant and bar, retail store, bakery, accommodation and sprawling gardens that play host to weddings and events.

When expressions of interest opened in late September, CBRE Hotels director Tom Gibson said The Sir George generated in excess of $5.5 million in revenue each year.

"It's a profitable operation ... and that is going to appeal to institutional, experienced hospitality owner-operators as well," he said.

The hotel spans more than 8000 square metres and also includes a four-bedroom private residence located around the corner from the hotel on an additional 1000-square-metre block.

Ms Prater told The Canberra Times in September after six years of running the business, the time had come for her and her daughter to take a step back and focus on family.

"[Kate's] had three babies in the five years that we've been going, and she needs to be able to spend more time with them ... even though we both love it," Ms Prater said.

"It's just such an interesting job, you get up every day with plans in mind and things happen, things change, every day is a new experience at the pub, so it will be hard to get up one day and not have that to fill your mind."

At the time, Ms Prater said she hoped the future owners of The Sir George would continue providing a meeting place for families and friends.

"[The hotel is] just sort of hitting its straps, it's looking great. I hope it continues to be that social place that it is, in a lovely atmosphere," she said.

Despite COVID-19 lockdowns, regional NSW pub sales hit $100 million for the year in September, according to commercial real estate agency HTL Property.
